Eastern is the world's largest harvester, processor and
marketer of scallops. There's a reason Eastern Fisheries is
known as "The Scallop Company." Since our founding
in 1978, scallops have been the sole focus of our business.
While others in the seafood industry diversify their product
lines, in an attempt to increase sales, we have chosen to
be the best at the species we know better than anyone else:
scallops.
The results speak for themselves. Eastern is the premier
supplier of scallops in the world today. In 2005, we sold approximately 20 million pounds of scallops, accounting for
20% of the entire U.S. consumption. We attribute our success to
the unique features we offer to better serve our customers:
- Our own fleet of 21 scallop fishing vessels
- Three waterfront locations in New Bedford, Massachusetts,
the largest dollar seafood port in the U.S.
- Over 110,000 square feet of space with a total production capacity of 600,000 pounds per week
- Strategic alliances and importing expertise in the Pacific
Rim, Canada, South and Central America
- The global perspective and financial strength we've acquired
through the careful management of our business
By creating a streamlined, vertically-integrated organization,
Eastern brings a high level of efficiency and consistency
to the distribution of fresh and frozen scallops.
In 2005, we completed a significant expansion of our processing
facilities and added five new boats to our fleet. These investments
will further solidify our position as the premier supplier
of scallops to the world market.
