Eastern Fisheries Obtains Chain Of Custody Certification For Atlantic Dogfish
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – November 2012 - Eastern Fisheries Inc., a family-owned, trusted seafood source since 1978, today announced that they have successfully obtained Chain of Custody Certification in the Marine Stewardship Council program for U.S. Spiny Atlantic Dogfish. The Chain of Custody Certification assures that the company’s certified dogfish comes from legal and sustainable sources.
“We are excited to have obtained the MSC certification. We know that this is an important identification for our all customers, who like us, strive to support sustainable seafood practices,” said Joe Furtado, executive vice president.
To obtain MSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification, distributors must pass an independent, third party audit that is conducted by an accredited certification body, and must undergo annual surveillance audits to demonstrate it continues to meet the standard. The CoC standard focuses on having an internal traceability system and reliable operational systems in place to ensure that MSC-certified seafood is kept separate from noncertified seafood.

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – September 2012 - - Eastern Fisheries Inc., today announced the addition of the F/V ROST and the F/V PYXIS to its fleet. Both boats were christened on Saturday, September 8 along the docks of Eastern Fisheries’ waterfront facilities. The Eastern Fisheries fleet has now grown to 25 boats, and continues to be the industries largest fleet.
