Eastern Fisheries Christens New Scallop Vessels
Eastern Adds Two Brand New Boats To Its Fleet
Eastern Fisheries Inc., today announced the addition of the F/V ROST and the F/V PYXIS to its fleet. Both boats were christened on Saturday, September 8 along the docks of Eastern Fisheries’ waterfront facilities. The Eastern Fisheries fleet has now grown to 25 boats, and continues to be the industries largest fleet.
The ROST, named after the birthplace of founder Roy Enoksen, has replaced an older boat with the same name. The PYXIS, a brand new addition to the Eastern fleet, is named after a small constellation in the southern sky, belonging to the Heavenly Waters family of constellations.
The boats were built at Duckworth Shipbuilders in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Both were constructed with a bulbous bow which lies just below the waterline and allows the flow of water over the bulb to cancel out the vessels wake, which helps to reduce drag and therefore helps to increase speed, stability and fuel efficiency.
