Newly constructed F.V. Arcturus Christened
Eastern Fisheries Inc. today announced the addition of F.V. Arcturus to its fleet. The newly constructed scallop vessel traveled from a shipyard in Florida to New Bedford Harbor’s South Terminal, where it awaited its official christening ceremony along the company’s docks at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27.
After a priest’s blessing, the champagne bottle was broken before a crowd of cheering Eastern employees. Hillary Eaton, granddaughter of Eastern co-owner/co-founder Frank O’Hara Sr., performed the official christening. Also present for the ceremony were members of Eastern’s founding families, the O’Haras and Enoksens, including co-owner/co-founder Roy Enoksen.
Arcturus, named for a star in the constellation Boötes, is Eastern’s 23rd scallop vessel. The company continues to operate the industry’s largest scallop fleet, marketing and distributing the harvest worldwide.
